Holidays Smauladays

Why do we celebrate holidays? Whose idea was this anyway? Was it a card company, a retail association, or people who just have too much time on their hands? We say we love, love, LOVE the holidays but in reality they cause stress, illness and over spending. The next year is spent recovering from the huge holiday craziness and attempting to recover from the debt that is racked up (sometimes at 27% interest). Of course that leads to more stress and worry. So, I have an idea. Stop!
Reconsider what the meaning is behind the holiday that is being celebrated. Is the celebration about things? I suggest you have your family and friends over, play a game, have a discussion, read a book, eat some good food and take a walk together. Celebrate relationships, new found relatives, connections with old friends and memories of family members who are no longer here. If we keep their memory alive then they are never very far away.
